Maca (Lepidium meyenii): Libido, Sexual Function Evidence & Safety
Maca is heavily marketed for libido, testosterone, fertility, and sexual performance. The human evidence does not support treating all of those claims as proven.
What the evidence says
A systematic review of randomized clinical trials found limited evidence that maca may improve some measures of sexual function or desire. Only four trials met inclusion criteria, sample sizes were small, and overall study quality was too limited for firm conclusions.
Evidence strength
Norene’s Farmacy rating: LIMITED HUMAN EVIDENCE.
What we do not claim
We do not claim maca raises testosterone, treats erectile dysfunction, cures low libido, or guarantees sexual performance.
